17 Mar 2015 Women’s Leadership Conference: Women Executives on Leadership and Success in the Corporate World
Last week my coworkers and I had the privilege of attending the annual Women’s Leadership Conference hosted by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. The conference included speakers such as Susan Packard, co-founder of HGTV, Gayle Lanier, Senior VP at Duke Energy, Sandra Wellet, Vice President at Lenovo, and Jennifer Dunleavy, CEO of Accuro, just to name a few.
During the conference the women reflected on their experiences, accomplishments, and disappointments during their rise to success in a male-dominated corporate world. One of the biggest issues the women touched on during the panel was the importance of confidence.
As Jo Allen, president of Meredith College pointed out, “Nobody has all the answers, but you can sure fake it.”
To which Catharine Biggs Arrowood, partner at Parker Poe and one of the highest-ranked litigators in the state added, “If you are the only woman in the room who cares? You’re as smart as they are and you work as hard as they do.”
Another focus of the event was the need for women to support one another. As Jennifer Dunleavy, CEO of Accuro so eloquently stated “When a woman experiences success, other women should celebrate that. To level the playing field we have to elevate each other.”
These women leaders serve as an inspiration and a reminder to all women that we are capable of anything, but to reach our fullest potential we must first believe in ourselves and each other.
